Establishing school-wide standards for engineering writing: A data driven approach Conference Paper uri icon

abstract

  • A data driven approach towards establishing a school-wide standards for engineering writing is presented. Investigating the problems and gathering data helps to improve the teaching of writing throughout the curriculum. The extent to which faculty and students percieve their disciplines to have shared standards for good writing and which standards they believe their disciplines value were also assessed. High faculty agreement about the importance of clear explanations of technical subjects and evidence to support arguments underlines how notion of forms versus content in writing play in the engineering writing pedagogy.
