abstract
This paper introduces new fault location algorithms based on synchronized sampling. A time domain model of a transmission line is used as a basis for the algorithm development. Samples of voltages and currents at the ends of a transmission line are taken synchronously and used to calculate fault location. The paper discusses two different algorithm forms utilizing two line models. A number of tests are performed using EMTP simulations of faults. The algorithm results show high accuracy while the computational burden is moderate. 1994.
