Source tracing in Thailand following contamination of dog chew toys with Salmonella Chapter uri icon

abstract

  • Dog chew toys are growing in popularity around the world. They are manufactured primarily in Asia, in countries such as Thailand and China, and exported worldwide. The ingredients used in the manufacture and the manufacturing process can vary widely. Very often they are either pig ears or raw hide. The concerns associated with pathogen-contaminated chew toys have caused countries to consider banning their import. Such actions can cause major financial ramifications for the exporting countries. The following case study describes the challenges of microbial pathogen contamination of dog chew toys. 2012 Woodhead Publishing Limited All rights reserved.
