Synthesis of an integrated biorefinery via the C-H-O ternary diagram Conference Paper uri icon

abstract

  • A graphical approach is presented to evaluate the equilibrium composition of synthesis gas, optimum operating temperature, and type and amount of oxidants required, based on the synthesis gas requirement of processes to convert synthesis gas into final products (biofuel, methanol, etc.). Based on the targeted composition, a conceptual design of an integrated biorefinery can be systematically developed. Based on the insights of the C-H-O ternary diagram, the equilibrium composition and optimum operating parameters of biomass gasification can be determined. The C-H-O ternary diagram is also used to provide a quick targeting tool that aids in the evaluation and analysis of alternatives. This is an abstract of a paper presented at the 19th International Congress of Chemical and Process Engineering and 7th European Congress of Chemical Engineering (Prague, Czech Republic 8/28/2010-9/1/2010).
