abstract

  • 123 sedentary women were randomized into a control group (C), Curves Complete (CC), Weight Watchers (WW), Jenny Craig (JC), or Nutrisystem (NS) weight loss program for 12wks. Fasting blood samples were obtained at 0, 4, 8, & 12 wks. Data are percent changes from baseline. Significant group time interactions were observed in TG (C 2.229, 7.726, 0.124; CC 27.121, 24.224, 23.220; WW 8.532, 1.636, 2.731; JC 3.340, 8.034, 15.143; NS 6.939, 11.233, 11.129 %, p=0.002) and HDLc (C 0.611, 3.510; 5.010; CC 0.811, 0.311, 5.015; WW 5.112, 4.013, 0.214; JC 10.912, 6.414, 5.016; NS 6.214, 6.512, 4.013 %, p=0.01). Total CHL tended to differ among groups (C 0.612, 0.312; 2.211; CC 11.811, 9.19, 7.511; WW 5.812, 2.812, 0.612; JC 7.213, 3.313, 2.311; NS 4.913, 4.512, 3.816 %, p=0.07). No differences were observed among groups in LDLc (C 1.918, 1.723; 4.017; CC 11.115, 9.213, 7.819; WW 1.420, 1.623, 10.451; JC 6.517, 1.717, 2.712; NS 4.618, 5.514, 6.121 %, p=0.21) or blood glucose (C 1.78, 2.66; 1.38; CC 2.210, 1.98, 2.412; WW 1.512, 1.19, 1.78; JC 3.39, 2.411, 1.610; NS 0.816, 3.214, 2.916 %, p=0.91). Results reveal a high protein/low fat weight loss program with resistancetraining promotes more favorable changes in blood lipids compared to some other popular weight loss programs.
