Nanophotonic Structures Fabricated in Single Crystal Diamond Conference Paper uri icon

abstract

  • We present diamond nanophotonic structures that allow for enhanced collection of Nitrogen Vacancy (NV) color center photoluminescence. These structures, including solid immersion lenses, nanowire waveguides, and linear photonic crystals, are fabricated into a bulk diamond crystal using three-dimensional focused ion beam (FIB) sculpting techniques. In order to realize strong light-matter interactions between luminescent centers in diamond and such photonic structures, more conventional techniques such as lithographic patterning and etching will have to be utilized in the future. Nevertheless, these canonical devices highlight the role that photonics will play in the future as an enabling technology for diamond-based quantum information systems. 2009 Materials Research Society.
