abstract
An all-optical modulation method is proposed and experimentally demonstrated to overcome the modulation bandwidth limitations, imposed by the excited-state population decay rate, in a conventional resonant optical modulator. In the experimental demonstration, we have observed an all-optical modulation bandwidth 200 times wider than the population decay rate. The enhancement of the modulation bandwidth is due to the fast spin dephasing caused by spin inhomogeneous broadening. 2003 The American Physical Society.
