abstract
A theoretical analysis of the second harmonic generation (SHG) leading to tunable UV laser radiation is reported. The relevant parameters affecting the power generation in the spectral range of interest have been critically studied. The dependence of second harmonic power on wavelength, power and waist of fundamental beam was evaluated for KDP crystals. Using the known data about optical parameters of the mentioned crystal we have compared matching angles and conversion efficiencies for the whole transparency range of KDP. Finally we made estimations about the possibility to use this crystal for new frequency generation, of spectroscopical interest. An experimental set-up is reported in order to verify the predicted values for the optimum efficiency for the SHG and the optimum waist of the fundamental beam.
