GRIP PREFERENCES OF CHILDREN ON LADDER APPARATUS Academic Article uri icon

abstract

  • The purpose of this study was to determine hand-grip preferences of 223 children and 59 adults ( N = 282) while moving on a ladder apparatus positioned at 45, 90, and 180 positions. Three styles of grip were noted: thumb over bar, thumb under bar, and mixed. Analysis showed that 97% of the total group used the thumb under for the 45 task, while styles used on the 90 task were almost equally divided among the thumb under and over preference. The majority utilized the thumb over the bar for the 180 task (horizontal bar). No age trend was found for any of the tasks.
