abstract
The ability of chirped pulse amplification systems to produce shaped and amplified pulse was incorporated into the design of two liquid crystal modulators which give independent amplitude and phase control and can work within the diffractive stretcher system of the laser. Spectrally resolved autocorrelations and/or frequency resolved optical gates were included to determine the accuracy of shaped pulse approximation of ideal target pulse shape. Some applications of the programmable amplitude and phase modulation system are presented.
