abstract

  • The impact of the broiler and egg industries on the Texas economy was evaluated by collecting data from companies via survey forms. The information received was used to estimate the total impact of both segments of the poultry industry. The information collected will be useful to agencies and groups interested in the impact that these industries have on the communities they are in and the state in general. The broiler and egg industries employ more than 10,500 people directly and create employment for another 31,650 people outside the industry. The total impact of the broiler and egg industries to the Texas economy is estimated to be over $1.4 billion with over $91 million paid directly to contract broiler growers. This information demonstrates that the broiler and egg industries have a significant impact on the Texas economy. This impact will increase as the industry continues to experience growth.
