abstract
The combined refraction-diffraction (CRD) equation approach for making engineering wave calculations in coastal regions is discussed. Several computer models for this equation which have recently evolved are reviewed. These include numerical models, complete models (Guassian elimination method, hyperbolic and iterative models), and approximate models (parabolic equation method, RCPWAVE model and the Error Vector Propagation (EVP) model). Examples of practical applications are given to illustrate their use in coastal activities, particularly fish farming or aquaculture applications. (A)
