abstract
Catalytic membranes for hydrogen extraction from fermentation liquors are developed. The extension of this technique to hydrogen purification from reformate mixtures (H 2, CO, CO 2, H 2O) using a catalytic membrane active for water-gas-shift reaction is demonstrated. Design simulations of this membrane system predict H 2/CO permselectivities that are competitive to palladium membranes at a fraction of the materials cost. This is an abstract of a paper presented at the 2012 AIChE Spring National Meeting and 8th Global Congress on Process Safety (Houston, TX 4/1-5/2012).
