Multi-compartment CNS neuron-glia co-culture platform Conference Paper uri icon

abstract

  • A multi-compartment neuron co-culture platform for axon/glia interaction studies has been designed and fabricated using a newly developed hybrid macro/micro fabrication technique. The technique enables fabricating both macro/micro scale structures from a single master mold for high-throughput replication of microdevices by one-step PDMS soft-lithography process. Each compartment in the co-culture platform is fluidically isolated from each others to carry out multiple conditions of experiments in parallel. Neurons and oligodendrocytes (OLs) were successfully cocultured inside the device for up to four weeks with OLs expressing myelin basic protein on top of axonal layer inside the axon/glia compartments. 2009 CBMS.
