abstract
A novel high-throughput microfluidic cell culture platform capable of conducting localized drug treatments to isolated axons for studying axon degeneration/regeneration has been developed. The cell culture microsystem was designed to test four sets of six different experimental conditions simultaneously and to exchange culture media in all of the 24 axon compartments with a single pipetting step to realize a high-throughput device. Primary neurons were cultured inside the device and axons were successfully isolated from neuronal cell bodies inside the axon compartments for localized drug treatments.
