  • Using the entropy theory, this note derives the Singh-Yu infiltration equation which is based on two simple constraints: (1) the total probability and (2) the mean logarithmic effective infiltration. The entropy theory permits a probabilistic characterization of the potential infiltration rate and hence the probability density function underlying the Singh-Yu infiltration equation. It also permits a quantitative assessment of the uncertainty of the infiltration yielded by the equation. 2011 ASCE.
