abstract
A comprehensive, performance based comparison of classical and recent methods of angles-only initial orbit determination (IOD) is presented. Several algorithms including techniques developed by the authors will be tested against a variety of ground-based and space-based tracking scenarios. The comparisons are focused on how well the IOD method is capable of estimating the shape and orientation of the orbit. Specific single scenarios along with Monte Carlo analysis are performed. Also, the speed of the IOD methods is compared. The number of observations vary from three to multiple depending upon the capability of the algorithm.
