abstract
The experimental measurement of velocity fields of a plunging wave impacting on a structure with an extended deck in a two-dimensional wave flume was investigated. As the wave breaks and overtops the structure, a large aerated region is formed in the vicinity of the structure and water splashes on top of the structure. In this study, bubble image velocimetry (BIV) was used to measure the velocity in the aerated region and the associated green water. The profile of the green water velocity shows a non-linear distribution with the maximum velocity occurring near the front of the water. Using the measured data and dimensional analysis method, a prediction model is obtained for the green water velocity distribution.
