abstract
A crystal structure now exists for one of the catalytic coupled binuclear Cu enxymes. In contrast to heme enzymes, substrate analogues are found to bind directly to the metal center. Differences in reactivity over this class of enzymes appear to correlate with differences in accessibility of, and substrate binding to, otherwise structurally similar binuclear Cu active sites.
