abstract
The process of performing in-flight measurements of the canard wake on a Velocity XL-5 retractable gear (RG) is detailed and the results are compared to computational models of the flowfield. A combination of an 18-probe total pressure rake and two five-hole probes were used. Preflight wind-tunnel tests were used for probe calibration and a three-dimensional viscous code was used for the flowfield computations. The comparisons between the computations and the measurements were very good. The resulting database validated the computations and provides a reference for future flight experiments.
