A Literature Review on Measuring Building Performance by Using Key performance Indicators Conference Paper uri icon

abstract

  • The lack of proper categorization of performance indicators hampers frequent and widespread use of performance metrics by the facility management industry. The purpose of this paper is to identify Key Performance Indicators (KPI's) and categorize them into specific aspects of facility performance measurement. A qualitative approach, based on the literature, is adopted, which identified KPI's based on a literature search. The KPI's were, then, arranged into three major categories, based on their purpose and content: financial, physical, and functional. This categorization may offer a more practical use by facility management practitioners. Examples of the indicators identified, with their description, units of measurement, and literature sources are presented. Future research should focus on further analysis of KPI's in order to generate a more concise list of indicators that exhibit wide applicability and valid categorization.
