Disturbance Localization using a Multifunctional Antenna-Buoy Sensor Network Conference Paper uri icon

abstract

  • 2014 IEEE. This work examines the integration of a spherical inverted-F antenna (SIFA) and a spherical buoy structure. The resulting multifunctional antenna system includes an inertial measurement unit (IMU), microcontroller (MCU), rechargeable battery, and wireless radio. The IMU collects motion-dynamic information from the structure and relays this information in a star network configuration to a central node for processing. This information was used with numerically-derived shallow ocean wave propagation data as basis functions in a modified MUSIC algorithm to determine the wave fronts' point of origin. Results for the SIFA-buoy and network are included.
