abstract
The catalytic performance of cobalt supported on alumina catalyst after CO or synthesis gas pretreatments was studied. During Fischer-Tropsch synthesis (FTS), CO conversion and C 5+ selectivity were low whereas CH 4 selectivity was high with catalysts after COITA250 and CO-ITA350 pretreatments, respectively. Catalyst after CO-ITA350 showed high active cobalt phase, however, the other major cobalt phase (Co 3 C) did not catalyze FTS. Synthesis gas pretreatment (Syngas-250) following CO-ITA 250 resulted in significant decrease of CH 4 selectivity and increase of C 5+ selectivity but had a neglibible effect on CO conversion. Synthesis gas activated catalyst (Syngas-ITA350) had higher activity than the CO activated catalyst (CO-ITA350) attributed to the presence of cobalt (hcp) and (fcc) phases, whereas CH 4 selectivity decreased slightly.
