abstract
X-ray scattering studies of average orientation in SDS/decanol and CPyCl/hexanol nematic surfactants in the 1-2 phase were performed. It was found that the SDS/decanol system exhibits steady-state and transient orientation and rheology consistent with the conclusion that this material is shear aligning. Overall, data collected on the CPyCl/hexanol system in the 1-2 plane contrast with similar recent data on PBG solutions in that they show better qualitative agreement with the Larson-Doi model than found in tumbling lyotropic LCPs.
