Impact of different penetrations of renewable sources and demand side management on Australian future grid Conference Paper uri icon

abstract

  • 2015 IEEE. Large thermal power plants are the main sources of generation for conventional power systems. The traditional scheme will be challenged by new features of future smart grid: renewable energy (RE) sources, distributed generation (DG), energy storage (ES) and new type of loads such as electric vehicles (EV). In all the changes above, the role of modelling and analysis related to security for a large number of scenarios remains of central important. This inspired us to analyze the various scenarios under the future grid infrastructure based on the simplified Australian power grid. The main contribution of this paper is to form various scenarios for Australian future grid based on different levels of RE sources penetration and different levels of DSM uptakes. Then the security of the future electricity network is analyzed in detail based on these scenarios and useful implication is derived.
