Dangers of arsenic in US private wells Academic Article uri icon

abstract

  • A study team in Neveda, USA, has pointed to the danger of the high levels of arsenic in private wells where water quality is not subject to regulation under the Safe Drinking Water Act. A study was made in Churchill County, Neveda, where over half of the 25,000 residents rely on private domestic wells for water supply. It was found that a majority of respondents consumed water from private wells but only a minority of those applied treatment. While treatment can effectively lower the exposure to dangerous concentration of arsenic, those who treated their supplies were more likely to consume the water.
