Effect of estrogen on vaginal blood flow in ewes. Academic Article uri icon

abstract

  • Using thermal techniques, we demonstrated a marked stimulatory effect of estrogen on vaginal blood flow. One milligram of estrone intramuscularly caused: (1) a reduction in the temperature difference (T) between vagina and aortic blood, (2) a shortened "equilibration" time of this T following blood cooling by a drink of water, (3) an increase in the thermal homogeneity of the vagina, and (4) an increased thermal conductance of the vaginal wall. The onset of this hyperemic response occurred about one hour after injection of estrone. 1972.
