Selective control of hydrocarbon product distribution in supercritical phase Fischer-Tropsch synthesis. Report uri icon

abstract

  • Conducting Fischer-Tropsch synthesis (FTS) under supercritical fluid (SCF) solvent conditions affords unique opportunities to manipulate the FTS reaction environment to enhance production of ultra-clean low-emission liquid fuels (gasoline, jet fuel, diesel, etc.) and value-added chemicals (such as -olefins) from synthesis gas. Experimental investigations of the performance of a cobalt based catalytic system (15% Co/Al2O3) in SCF-FTS (using hexane and pentane as solvents) over a wide range of operating conditions by tuning the reaction environment from liquid-like properties to vapor-like properties and vice versa were presented. This is an abstract of a paper presented at the 228th ACS National Meeting (Philadelphia, PA 8/22-26/2004).
