COMBINED RANDOM SWELL AND TRANSIENT LONG WAVES: DISSIPATION CHARACTERISTICS Conference Paper uri icon

abstract

  • The dissipation characteristics of combined short swell and transient long waves are investigated. A methodology for deducing the instantaneous dissipation from each breaking wave is employed to determine the overall dissipation and the ensuing dissipation rate in each set of experiments. It is determined that the bulk characteristics of dissipation of the combined short-long wave signals are different than those seen in each individual signal, but that the frequency dependencies of dissipation rates seen in the combined short-long wave signals are quite similar to those of the swell waves in isolation.
