A multipurpose feed system for fluids and solid particles Academic Article uri icon

abstract

  • A system is described that is capable of feeding solid particles and liquids into a main stream conveying flow without the use of moving parts. This system provides the ability to make fine adjustments to the feed flow rate without the need to make any change in the hardware or operating conditions including the conveying flow rate. The system was tested by feeding spherical glass beads with a nominal diameter of 240 m into a water jet. The particle flow rate was varied over the range of 1-9 g s-1. Experimental uncertainties are quantified. It is shown that a single calibration function for the feed system is valid over a significant range of flow rates.
