abstract
The feasibility of the application of degradative solidification/stabilization with ferrous iron process to 1,1,1-trichloroethane (1,1,1-TCA) was examined. Batch experiments were performed to investigate degradation kinetics of 1,1,1-TCA by Fe(II) in cement slurries. The effects of pH, Fe(II) dose and target compound concentration on dechlorination kinetics were evaluated. The major transformation product of 1,1,1-TCA in mixtures of Fe(II) and cement system was 1,1-DCA, which is a degradation product occurring by a hydrogenolysis pathway. This is an abstract of a paper presented at the 231st ACS National Meeting (Atlanta, GA 3/26-30/2006).
