The economic evaluation of plans for the reduction of flood damage to urban developments in flood plains is reviewed. Flood damage reduction measures are described and classified. Basic economic evaluation concepts are then described in relation to the benefits of reducing flood damage. Computer programs for the hydrologic and economic analysis of flood damage reduction plans are also considered. (D.W.T.)
