abstract
The surface properties of the superconducting material YBa2Cu3O7 have been studied by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). A clean sample surface was obtained by in situ mechanical cleaning with a surface brushing and grinding device. Changes in the core level and valence-band photoelectron spectra have been used to examine surface composition, chemical states and segregation of the sample when heated in vacuum and oxygen, and when reacted with water vapor. In addition, the effects of plasma treatment on the surface were investigated. 1989.
