abstract
Splitting of fourth-sound resonances was observed in a cylindrical cavity packed with 0.3 of alumina powder. The porosity of the powder was 83%. Angular velocities of persistent currents in the superfluid helium filling the cavity were measured up to 13 rad/sec. A critical velocity of 377 cm/sec at 1.55K was determined from these measurements. This result appears to be consistent with current theory and with other experiments. 1971 Plenum Publishing Corporation.
