abstract
Room temperature values of the Hall coefficient of melt-spun (Zr0.5Ni0.5)1-xAlx amorphous alloys are reported for x=0 to 0.2. The Hall coefficient of amorphous Zr0.5Ni0.5 is small and negative. The addition of Al increases the value of RH which becomes positive for x0.1, whereas amorphous Al exhibits a negative value of RH close in magnitude to that expected from a free electron metal. These observations appear to be inconsistent with predictions based on s-d hybridization which has previously been used to explain positive values of RH in amorphous transition metal alloys. The side-jump mechanism related to spin-orbit scattering may also be important. 1990.
