Extracting the Asymptotic Normalization Coefficients in Neutron Transfer Reactions to Determine the Astrophysical Reaction Rates for [sup 22]Mg(p,)[sup 23]Al and [sup 17]F(p,)[sup 18]Ne Conference Paper uri icon

abstract

  • It was expected that rays from 18 F and 22 Na would be observed in massive ONe novae, but neither has been to date. The 17 F(p,) 18 Ne and 22 Mg(p,) 23 Al reactions may play important roles in the production and destruction of 18 F and 22 Na. We have determined the asymptotic normalization coefficients for 18 Ne and 23 Al through measurements of peripheral neutron transfer reactions in the mirror nuclear systems. We use the ANCs to calculate the astrophysical S-factors and reaction rates for these two reactions. 2008 American Institute of Physics.
