FULLY-IMPLICIT MODEL FOR ELECTRICALLY ENHANCED OIL RECOVERY.
A fully-implicit, three-dimensional reservoir simulator has been developed to model the electrically-enhanced oil recovery process (EEOR). The EEOR process is based on the concept that by passing an electrical current through a conductive oil bearing formation, resistive heating of the oil will occur with corresponding reduction in oil viscosity. Over the past decade several attempts have been made to model this process with limited success because of simplifying assumptions in either the numerical formulation or the physics of the process. The formulation presented rigorously models the physical phenomena important to the process with the additional feature of a fully-implicit treatment for added stability.
