abstract
A computer simulator of flow and pressure behaviour in well bores and diverters was developed to predict performance during shallow gas blowouts. The model is based on the solution of the unsteady state mechanical energy balance equation for pipe flow. It is shown that pressure and velocity behaviour depend strongly on the initial difference in bottom hole pressure and reservoir pressure, on the well bore diameter, and on the diameter of the diverter.
