abstract
An innovative approach of teaching Six Sigma, a tool widely used in industry, is discussed in this paper. The Six Sigma methodology was applied during a seven-week course project after the casestudy of an actual Six Sigma project in a junior-level instrumentation course for a four-year engineering technology program at Texas A&M University. The students followed the Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control (DMAIC) process to improve a given product design. Statistical analysis of final examination, course project, and survey results shows that the new approach is an effective way of teaching Six Sigma concepts. 2010 TEMPUS Publications.
