abstract
The dispersion of nanoparticles in metal matrices is crucial for the performance of the metal matrix nanocomposites (MMNCs). Uniformly dispersing nanoparticles into the metal matrix is still a great challenge. This paper demonstrates that a uniform dispersion of Al2O3nanoparticles in an A206 alloy matrix is achieved by a combination of liquid state ultrasonic processing and solid state friction stir processing. The results obtained in this work provide a general methodology to uniformly disperse nanoparticles into metal matrix nanocomposites, paving the way for development of metal matrix nanocomposites with superior properties.
