abstract
This paper describes the activities of the Center for Electronics Manufacturing (CEM) at The University of Texas at El Paso. The CEM, a partnership among the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), Texas A&M University, the Georgia Institute of Technology and the U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Command, was established in September 1995. The Center conducts applied research that contributes to improvements in the cost, quality, and responsiveness of the U.S. electronics industry in meeting the needs of the Department of Defense. The activities of the center will be divided into research, education and technology transfer. The research activities are organized into four areas: quality control, production control, industrial base and control/interface.
