abstract
An experimental study of the application of Fuzzy Linguistic Control to the arc welding process was conducted. Fuzzy rule based controller, closely approximating the action of the human operator, was used to control the peak surface temperature of the workpiece. Wirefeed rate was used as the controlling input. The results of the study reveal the suitability of the rule based scheme as an alternative to traditional control design. Further research issues, concerning stability and robustness, are discussed.
