Risk Management for Agrifood Supply Chains Chapter uri icon

abstract

  • Agri-food supply chain risk management (SCRM) plays a key role in retaining future development within a sustainability context. This chapter presents a set of selected advanced alternative methodologies for modeling real-world SCRM problems of the agri-food sector. The chapter first provides the general risk management framework for a commercial supply chain, following which this framework is specialized for the case of the agri-food sector, including risk types and sources, risk mitigation strategies, and quantitative tools for risk analysis. It illustrates three cases in order to demonstrate both the theoretical and practical applicability of the quantitative agri-food SCRM methodologies: revenue management of perishable agri-food products, emergency dual sourcing contracts, and managing agri-food supply chain disruption risks. The chapter ends by providing some thoughts and ideas for future research.
