abstract
A generalized master equation which describes self-consistently relaxation and pumping processes for two three-level schemes of lasing without inversion (LWI) is derived Quantum self-consistent analysis of the first scheme prove the impossibility of LWI in this system. Concerning the second scheme, all the results depend on two parameters. When these two parameters are small, the possibility of LWI remains true. But if these parameter become large, the usual phenomenological treatment is no longer valid. These results point out the limitations of the phenomenological treatment and the importance of a quantum self-consistent approach in the theory LWI.
