abstract
A method of compressing frequency modulated Mossbauer radiation into sequence of short pulses is proposed. The ideology of chirped pulse generation and compression well known in optics is extended to the -ray range. Efficient frequency modulation of rays can be achieved by moving the Mossbauer source with alternating velocity while the chirped pulse compression can be accomplished due to resonant nuclear dispersion using far-detuned resonant absorber. This allows to obtain ray pulses much shorter than the natural lifetime of the excited nucleus from nuclear decay.
