abstract
Kaon production from heavy-ion collisions at energies that are below the threshold for its production in free space is studied in the relativistic Vlasov-Uehling-Uhlenbeck model. Because of the small production probability, kaon production in baryon-baryon reactions is treated perturbatively. The rescattering of the kaon by nucleons is, however, included in the calculation. It is found that kaons undergo substantial rescatterings as they are mostly produced in the high-density region. This leads to significant effects on the kaon final kinetic-energy spectra. 1993.
