Search for a 0+ level near the 8.87 MeV, 2 level of 16O Academic Article uri icon

abstract

  • The 4He(12C, 4He)12C reaction has been used with a differentially pumped 4He target to search for a J = 0+, = 100 eV resonance recently reported to occur near the J = 2-, 8.87 MeV level of 16O. No evidence for such a resonance was found in the present experiment with a confidence level > 99.99 %. This supports the assumption of Hattig et al. that the -delayed -particles observed from this excitation energy region in 16O are due to the parityviolating -decay of the 2- level. 1977.
