abstract
The (p, t) and (p,He3) reactions have been induced on O16, N15, and C13 targets by polarized protons of 43.8 or 49.6 MeV. Relative differential cross sections and analyzing powers were measured for 32 transitions and compared with zero-range distorted-wave Born-approximation calculations employing Cohen and Kurath wave functions. Although good results for differential cross sections were obtained, attempts to fit analyzing powers were less successful. In general (p,t) results gave better agreement than (p,He3), ground state transitions better than those to excited states, and transitions to analog states better than more complex transitions. [NUCLEAR REACTIONS O16(p, t), (p, He3), N15(p, t), (p,He3), E=43.8 MeV; C13(p,t), (p,He3), E=49.6 MeV; measured (E;) and analyzing powers for 32 transitions.
