abstract
A second-generation helium-jet-coupled ion source of the Bernas-Nier type has been developed for the Chalk River on-line isotope separator. The source features improvements to the anode-cylinder heating system, which enables the anode to reach temperatures exceeding 2000 C. The source suspension has been redesigned to accommodate the effects of operation at increased temperature in order to maintain critical anode alignment at all power levels, thus assuring a consistent high-resolution ion beam.
