abstract
This paper describes an on-line isotope separator facility which as been built at the Chalk River MP tandem Van de Graaff accelerator. The main design characteristics are high resolution and a current capability of 20 mA for masses between 1 and 300. The system incorporates an inhomogeneous 135 degree magnet of high dispersion, D equals 2250 mm. A novel feature, two pairs of corrective coils acting independently on the linear and quadratic magnetic field terms, has proven to be extremely advantageous for fine tuning of the magnetic dipole. The separator has been tested off-line, and is now frequently used on-line, with overall efficiencies reaching tens of per cent for light elements such as Na, Cl, K, Mn, Zn and Br.
